Simentera, a Cape Verdean music group, was formed in 1992. The band gained recognition for blending traditional Cape Verdean music with electronic instruments. In 1994, they performed at the Sfinks Festival in Boechout, Belgium. Their debut album Raiz was released in 1992 on Lusafrica, featuring covers of "Codjeta" by Kaká Barbosa and "Nha Codê" by Pedro Cardoso. Subsequent albums included Barro e Voz (1997) and Cabo Verde en Serenata (2000), showcasing traditional genres like coladeira, morna, and funaná. Notable tracks include "A Mar" from Barro e Voz, which appeared on the album Onda Sonora: Red Hot + Lisbon in 1998, and "Valsa Azul", released as part of the benefit compilation Unwired: Africa. Simentera's final album, Tr'Adictional, was released in 2003. The band disbanded in 2004 following the departure of Mário Lúcio.
