Gaetano Alberto "Guy" Lombardo, born on June 19, 1902, in London, Ontario, Canada, was a Canadian and American bandleader, violinist, and hydroplane racer. He formed the Royal Canadians with his brothers in 1924, achieving early success with their sweet jazz style. The group's first recording session took place at Gennett Studios in Richmond, Indiana, in 1924. His band recorded for various labels, including Columbia, Brunswick, Decca, and Victor Records, selling over 300 million copies by the early 1970s. Notable performances included a three-decade residency at New York City's Roosevelt Hotel and annual New Year's Eve broadcasts featuring "Auld Lang Syne". He continued touring until 1962 and passed away on November 5, 1977, in Houston, Texas.
