Margit Sponheimer, born on February 7, 1943, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, is a singer and actress. She began playing accordion and piano and received vocal training before embarking on her career. In 1959, at age 16, Sponheimer made her debut at the Mainzer Fastnacht, becoming a regular performer with her lively songs. Her breakthrough came in 1969 with "Am Rosenmontag bin ich geboren", composed by Charly Niessen, which became an evergreen carival hit. Throughout her career, Sponheimer released numerous albums including Von Herz Zu Herz (1967). She also collaborated with artists like Ernst Neger, earning the nickname “Margitsche.” Sponheimer's acting career includes roles in theater productions such as Dinner for One. She received the Bundesverdienstkreuz in 2007 and was named an honorary citizen of Mainz in 2018.
