Rita Brigitte Paul, also known as Rita Paul, was born on December 2, 1928, in Berlin, Germany, and was a German singer, actress, and cabaret artist. She frequently performed with Bully Buhlan and appeared in numerous films, often portraying singers. She also gained recognition as a member of the cabaret group Die Insulaner. Her career declined with the rise of rock and roll. After marrying a scientist, she lived in the United States for a period, where she focused on family life while also appearing in three American films and recording several records. She later returned to Germany but was unable to regain her earlier popularity, continuing to make occasional television appearances into the 1980s. Among her best-known songs were “My Friend Barbara” (1948), “Mäcki-Boogie” (1952), and “La Luna Romantica” (1962). She died in Berlin-Zehlendorf on March 27, 2021, aged 92.
