Eric Owens, born on July 11, 1970, in Philadelphia, is an American operatic bass‑baritone. He began piano lessons at six with the Settlement Music School, switched to oboe in middle school, and later studied voice at Temple University and the Curtis Institute of Music, where he was mentored by Armen Boyajian. He made his operatic debut as Ramfis in Aida with the Houston Grand Opera and subsequently performed leading roles in major houses including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, and Royal Opera House. He has received the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 1996, an ARIA Award in 1999, the Marian Anderson Award in 2003, and Grammy Awards for Best Opera Recording in 2011 and 2012.
