Walther Ludwig, born on March 17, 1902, in Bad Oeynhausen, Germany, was a German opera singer. He debuted as a lyrical tenor at the Königsberg City Theater in 1928 and performed at the Schwerin State Theater from 1929 to 1932. Ludwig joined the Berlin Municipal Opera in 1932 and appeared at the Glyndebourne Festival in 1935, singing roles such as Belmonte and Tamino in Mozart’s operas The Abduction from the Seraglio and The Magic Flute. He was appointed Prussian Kammersänger in 1936. Ludwig remained with the Berlin opera until its closure in 1944 due to World War II. Post-war, he performed extensively across Europe and South America. From 1952 to 1969, Ludwig taught at the Berlin Academy of Music. He practiced medicine until his death on May 15, 1981.
