Matti Kalevi Siitonen, known professionally as Fredi, was born on July 23, 1942, in Mikkeli, Finland, and was a Finnish entertainer and musician. He started recording in 1965 with "Roskisdyykkarin Balladi" under the name Folk Fredi and adopted the stage name Fredi the following year. In 1967, he represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest with "Varjoon - suojaan", finishing twelfth out of seventeen. Throughout his career, he achieved significant chart success in Finland with over twenty Top 10 hit singles and multiple diamond-certified studio albums, including Avaa sydämesi mulle (1974) and Rakkauslauluja (1975). He returned to Eurovision in 1976 as part of Fredi & Friends, performing "Pump-Pump" and finishing eleventh out of eighteen. He died on April 23, 2021, at the age of seventy-eight.
