Iris Vermillion, born in 1960 in Bielefeld, Germany, is a German opera mezzo-soprano singer. She studied flute and voice at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg under Mechthild Böhme and Judith Beckmann. Her career began with engagements at the Staatstheater Braunschweig before joining the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 1988. Vermillion gained international recognition for her roles in Mozart's operas, including Dorabella in Così fan tutte and Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, performed with Nikolaus Harnoncourt in Amsterdam. She also appeared at the Salzburg Festival in Richard Strauss' Capriccio. Her notable recordings include Idomeneo, Salome, and Der Ring des Nibelungen. She received a prize at the International Brahms Competition in Hamburg in 1985, won first prize at the Federal Singing Competition in Berlin in 1986, and was awarded the German Theatre Prize Der Faust in 2008.
