Peter Mattei, born June 3, 1965 in Piteå, Sweden, is a Swedish operatic baritone. He studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and debuted as Nardo in Mozart's La finta giardiniera at the Drottningholm Palace Theatre in Stockholm in 1990. Mattei gained international recognition with his role as Don Giovanni at the Scottish Opera in Glasgow, followed by performances at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie and the Aix-en-Provence Festival. His first appearance at the Salzburg Festival was in Beethoven's Fidelio in 1996. In 2002, Mattei made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Count Almaviva in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. He participated in the recording of Berlioz’s Les Troyens, which won Grammy Awards for Best Classical Album and Best Opera Recording at the 44th Annual Grammy Awards (2002).
