Charlie Burse was an American blues musician born on August 25, 1901. He gained recognition for his work with Will Shade's Memphis Jug Band, recording over 60 commercial sides as a multi-instrumentalist. Burse moved to Jackson, Mississippi, during the 1920s and later relocated to Memphis in 1928. His boisterous personality and frequent collaborations with Shade were notable, including recordings by Samuel Charters in 1956 and Alan Lomax in 1959. Burse also participated in other projects, such as Charlie Burse and His Memphis Mudcats in 1939. He died on December 20, 1965, and was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Memphis.
