The Caravelles, a British pop duo, formed in 1963 and comprised Lois Wilkinson and Andrea Simpson. They were introduced to each other by guitarist Tony Pitt, who suggested they record "You Don’t Have to Be a Baby to Cry". This demo secured them a contract with the Chris Blackwell-founded BPR Records, where they adopted the name The Caravelles. Their debut single, "You Don't Have To Be A Baby To Cry", was released in July 1963 and reached number six on the UK charts and number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The Caravelles toured extensively, performing with notable acts such as The Beatles, Cilla Black, and Gerry & the Pacemakers. Their follow-up single "Have You Ever Been Lonely" also charted in the US. Despite their early success, the duo struggled to replicate it, and they disbanded in 1966. Lois Wilkinson pursued a solo career under the name Lois Lane, while Andrea Simpson continued as The Caravelles with various other members until the 1980s.
