A foursome from Liverpool, England, Cook da Books cut a fiercely independent if brief career during the 80’s New Wave scene. Consisting of Peter “Digsy” Deary, John Legget, Tony Prescott, Owen Moran, and Kevin Kunky Kelly, the band produced synth-heavy and often politically charged singles, including their debut release, “Piggie in the Middle 8”, which went to number 18 on the UK Indie chart. This record got three of their songs used in the 1982 French comedy La Boum 2, and one of those, “Your Eyes”, became a number 1 hit in France. Their debut album, Outch, came out in 1983, the same year “Your Eyes” topped the charts in Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, and the Philippines. They opened for many of the biggest stars of the time, including Men at Work. A pair of additional singles, “Low Profile” and “I Wouldn’t Want To Knock It” went top 20 on the UK Indie Chart. Prescott left the band soon after, and the remaining three issued a cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Living for the City” in 1986. The band would break up two years later.
