Tom McDermott, born in 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri, is a jazz pianist and composer who began piano studies at seven and became a performer at sixteen. After earning a Master of Music from Washington University in St. Louis in 1982, he relocated to New Orleans in 1984, where he joined Dukes of Dixieland and later co‑founded the New Orleans Nightcrawlers in 1994, contributing arrangements for their brass sound. His discography as leader includes All the Keys & Then Some (1996), The Crave (2001), Live In Paris (2007), and Almost Native (2011). He has toured and recorded choro music in Brazil since 2001, and received critical acclaim from publications such as The New York Times and Rolling Stone.
