Wynona Merceris Carr, born on August 23, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio, was an American gospel, R&B, and rock and roll singer. In the late 1940s, she signed to Specialty Records and recorded under the name Sister Wynona Carr. Her early work included notable tracks like "The Ball Game". Carr later transitioned to rock and roll and R&B, recording from 1955 to 1959. Despite scoring an R&B hit with "Should I Ever Love Again?" in 1956, her career was hampered by health issues. She signed with Frank Sinatra's Reprise Records in 1961 but saw little success and returned to Cleveland. Carr passed away on May 11, 1976. Her gospel recordings and R&B material gained posthumous recognition through compilations released by Specialty Records in the 1980s and 1990s.
