Olaf Bär, born December 19, 1957, in Dresden, Germany, is a German baritone singer. He began his musical journey at age three with a silent role in Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly, and later joined the Dresdner Kreuzchor. Bär studied singing at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music. His breakthrough came in 1982 with the first prize at the International Dvořák Competition in Karlovy Vary. He joined the Dresdner Semperoper in 1985, performing internationally at venues like London's Covent Garden and Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Bär’s repertoire includes roles from Mozart to Richard Strauss, and he has collaborated with conductors such as John Eliot Gardiner and Georg Solti.
