Peter Damm, born on July 27, 1937, in Meiningen, Thüringen, Germany, is a German horn player. Damm began his instrumental training on the violin at age eleven before playing the horn in 1951 under Franz Nauber. Damm studied under Karl Biehlig at the Hochschule für Musik Weimar from 1951 to 1957. He joined the orchestra of the Bühnen der Stadt Gera as a solo hornist in 1957, and later performed as a solo hornist with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig from 1959 to 1969 and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden from 1969 to 2002. His recordings include Benjamin Britten's Serenade op. 31, Johannes Brahms's Horntrio Es-Dur op. 40, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Horn Concertos, and Richard Strauss's Hornkonzerte Nr. 1 und 2. Damm received the Silver Medal at the VI World Festival of Moscow in 1957, a prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 1960, and the National Prize of the GDR in 1979. He is an honorary member of the International Horn Society, the Horngesellschaft Bayern, and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden.
