Carl Martin, born on April 1, 1906 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, was an American Piedmont blues musician and vocalist. He began his career as a member of several groups, including the Four Keys, the Tennessee Chocolate Drops, and the Wandering Troubadours. In the 1930s, Martin accompanied notable Chicago musicians such as Bumble Bee Slim and Tampa Red, and released solo work featuring guitar accompaniment on songs like "Crow Jane" and "Old Time Blues". He collaborated with Freddie Spruell on the 1935 recording of "Let's Go Riding", which was featured in the soundtrack of the 2001 film Ghost World. Martin died on May 10, 1979, in Pontiac, Michigan. Posthumously, songwriter Steve Goodman paid tribute to Martin in his song "You Better Get It While You Can (The Ballad of Carl Martin)".
