Noah Lewis

Noah Lewis, born on September 3, 1891, in Henning, Tennessee, was an American harmonica player and country blues musician. He learned to play the harmonica as a child and moved to Memphis in his early teens, where he met Gus Cannon near Ripley in 1910. His trio with Cannon and Ashley Thompson, Cannon's Jug Stompers, recorded notable songs like "Minglewood Blues" and "Big Railroad Blues" in 1928. With the band, Lewis sang lead vocals and played a harmonica solo on "Viola Lee Blues". In 1930, he recorded solo tracks with Noah Lewis Jug Band. His song "New, New Minglewood Blues" was later included in the repertoire of the Grateful Dead. Lewis died on February 7, 1961, and was buried in the Moorer Cemetery.
