Ensemble Recherche is a German contemporary classical music ensemble with nine fixed members, founded in 1985 in Freiburg im Breisgau. The group focuses on premiering new works by composers including Hèctor Parra, Brice Pauset, Gérard Pesson, Helmut Lachenmann, and Wolfgang Rihm. In 1997, the group received the Rheingau Musik Preis in recognition of its services to contemporary chamber music. The ensemble premiered over 1,000 works, many of which are recognized as masterworks in the contemporary repertoire. Notable recordings include Luigi Nono's Guai ai gelidi mostri (1995) and Hans Abrahamsen's Schnee (2009). Beginning in 1999, the ensemble also commissioned an ongoing series of short In Nomine compositions titled the Witten In Nomine Broken Consort Book. The group performs concerts, participates in film, radio, and theater projects, and provides courses for instrumentalists and composers.
