Christine Schenk, also known as Christel Goltz, was born on July 8, 1912, in Dortmund, Germany, and was a German operatic soprano singer. After early training in ballet and voice in Munich, she entered the Deutsche Theater in Munich in the early 1930s, where her singing talent was first cultivated. Her breakthrough came in 1935 with a small solo engagement at the Stadttheater Fürth, followed by a role in Cavalleria rusticana at the Stadttheater Plauen. In 1936, she joined the Dresden State Opera, where she debuted as Rezia in Oberon and later performed Salome under Karl Böhm. She received the title of Sächsische Kammersängerin in 1946 and the Österreichische Kammersängerin in 1952, and was honored with the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art in 1959. Her discography includes Elektra (1955), Turandot (1956), and Fidelio (1957). She passed away on November 14/15, 2008, in Baden bei Wien.
