Curtis Knight, born Mont Curtis McNear on May 9, 1929 in Fort Scott, Kansas, was an American musician. He began his career in the 1960s Harlem R&B music scene, fronting his own band, the Squires. In 1965, with Jimi Hendrix as guitarist, Knight recorded several singles and demos for producer Ed Chalpin. After Hendrix's departure to England, Knight continued his musical journey, releasing albums such as Sugar & Spice (1969) and Down in the Village (1970). In 1974, he authored Jimi: An Intimate Biography of Jimi Hendrix. Knight moved to London, forming the group Curtis Knight, Zeus, and toured extensively throughout Europe. He relocated to the Netherlands in 1992 and continued recording until his death from cancer on November 29, 1999.
