Martino Tirimo, born 19 December 1942 in Larnaca, Cyprus, is a Cypriot pianist who gave his first concert at six. After winning the Franz Liszt Scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London at sixteen, he graduated with highest honours and continued his studies in Vienna. His breakthrough came in the early 1970s with victories in piano competitions in Munich and Geneva, launching a career that included performances across Europe. Tirimo's repertoire encompasses more than 80 concertos and the major solo works of the classical canon. He is particularly acclaimed for his interpretations of Franz Schubert, becoming the first pianist to perform all 21 piano sonatas in a complete public cycle in 1975, including his own completions of unfinished movements. He also championed Antonín Dvořák's and Michael Tippett's piano concertos, recording the latter with Tippett conducting. His discography of more than 50 recordings includes the complete piano works of Claude Debussy and Leoš Janáček and the Chopin and Brahms piano concertos. His recording of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 and Paganini Rhapsody became an EMI bestseller and earned a Gold Disc in 1994.
