Michael James Cox, born 19 March 1940 in Huyton, Liverpool, England, is a British former pop singer and actor. His breakthrough came with the 1960 single “Angela Jones”, produced by Joe Meek, which reached number 7 on the UK Singles Chart. The follow-up single “Along Came Caroline” (1960), which he co-wrote under the pseudonym Michael Steel, peaked at number 41 that same year. Cox signed with Decca Records, debuting with “Teenage Love” (1959) featuring guitarist Joe Brown, and later signed with Triumph. He recorded further singles for His Master's Voice, Pye, and Parlophone. In 1962, his single “Stand Up” reached Number 1 in Sweden on both the Tio i topp and Kvällstoppen charts, and he achieved another Swedish success with “I've Been Thinking” (1963). He later worked as an actor and appeared in television in New Zealand under his full name and the name Michael James.
