Wolfgang Gruner was born on 20 September 1926 in Rathenow, Germany, and became a prominent German cabaret performer and voice actor. After completing secondary school in his hometown, Gruner began his artistic training in 1950 in Berlin under Marlise Ludwig and soon joined the cabaret ensemble Die Stachelschweine, where he established himself as one of its leading performers. His recorded output included singles such as “Hurra, wir sind mal wieder Junggesellen!” and “Hier ist ein Mensch”. During the same period, he released recordings including the live album Wahlnacht – Qualnacht. Live im Europa-Center Berlin and the album Öffnen Sie mal Ihr Handschuhfach. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s he continued to appear in television productions and films and collaborated with fellow performers including Edeltraut Elsner. Gruner received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 1980, the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin in 1997, and the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in 2000. He died on 16 March 2002 in Berlin.
