Dieter Zechlin, born on October 30, 1926 in Goslar, was a German pianist. He began piano lessons at eight and studied at the Leipziger Konservatorium and the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar. His early career included recordings such as Schumann: Papillons Op. 2, Kinderszenen Op. 15 (1960), Alte Und Neue Klaviermusik Für Die Jugend (1962), and Beethoven: Konzert Für Klavier Und Orchester Nr. 3 C‑moll Op. 37 (1963). Zechlin performed in the Soviet Union, Europe, Japan, and Latin America, collaborating with composers Günter Kochan and Ernst Hermann Meyer. He held a professorship at the Berliner Musikhochschule, where he also served as rector, and received the Nationalpreis der DDR II. Klasse in 1961 and the Johannes‑R.–Becher‑Medaille in Gold in 1973.
