Fuat Shakirovich Mansurov, born on January 10, 1928, in Alma-Ata, Russian SFSR, was a Russian conductor. He studied cello and earned degrees from Kazakh State University and Kurmangazy-Konservatorium. Mansurov's career began at the Abai Kazakh State Academic Opera and Theatre of Opera and Ballet from 1953 to 1956. He won the First Prize at the 6th World Youth Music Festival in Moscow in 1957 and was named Honored Artist of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic in 1958. From 1968 to 1970, Mansurov became chief conductor at the Tatar Musa Djalil Academic State Theatre of Opera and Ballet. He joined the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in 1969, conducting premieres such as Semjon Kotko by Sergei Prokofiev and Il trovatore. In 1971, he won the First Prize at the Herbert von Karajan Competition. He passed away on June 12, 2010.
