Josephine Veasey

Josephine Veasey, born on July 10, 1930, in Peckham, was a British mezzo-soprano who studied with Audrey Langford and joined the Royal Opera House chorus in 1949. Her debut came on July 5, 1955, as the Page in Salome, followed by roles such as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro and Dorabella in Così fan tutte. In 1957, she began appearing at Glyndebourne Festival, performing Charlotte in Werther and Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier. She recorded Béatrice et Bénédict in 1963 and Berlioz's La captive, Op. 12 in 1969, working with conductors Herbert von Karajan and Sir Colin Davis. She retired from the stage in 1982 and passed away on February 22, 2022.
