Carl Adolph Schuricht, born on July 3, 1880, in Danzig, German Empire, was a German composer and conductor. He began studying violin and piano at age six and composed his first pieces by 11. Schuricht's career started as a répétiteur at the Staatstheater Mainz in 1901. In 1913, he gained recognition with the premiere of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 in Wiesbaden. He served as general music director in Wiesbaden from 1923 to 1944 and led notable orchestras such as the Leipziger Sinfonieorchester from 1931 to 1933. Schuricht left Germany before World War II ended and settled in Switzerland, continuing his career as a guest conductor with ensembles like the Concertgebouw-Orchester and the Wiener Philharmoniker. He was appointed honorary conductor of the Wiener Philharmoniker in 1960. Schuricht passed away on January 7, 1967, in Corseaux-sur-Vevey, Switzerland.
