Erkki Aukusti Junkkarinen, born on April 22, 1929, in Suonenjoki, Finland, was a Finnish singer. He began performing as a soloist with a local orchestra in Lappeenranta from 1947. Junkkarinen's breakthrough came in 1950 when he won a singing contest in Helsinki, after which he recorded "Yksinäinen harmonikka" under the direction of Toivo Kärki. His early success included hits like "Imatran Inkeri". By 1954, his popularity began to wane, but he returned to prominence in the 1970s with albums like Vanhaan hyvään aikaan (1970) and Ruusuja hopeamaljassa (1975), which became a platinum-selling album. Junkkarinen's career spanned over five decades, during which he recorded nearly 350 songs and was awarded the State Artist pension in 1990. He passed away on April 9, 2008.
