Tzimon Barto, born Johnny Barto Smith on January 2, 1963, in Eustis, Florida, is an American concert pianist, conductor, and author. He began playing the piano at age five under the guidance of his grandmother, and later studied at the Juilliard School in New York with Adele Marcus. He recorded numerous albums on labels such as EMI, Ondine, and Capriccio, with a repertoire that includes Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I, Ives' Klaviersonate Nr. 2, and Rameau's A Basket of Wild Strawberries. He also collaborated with Christoph Eschenbach, performing and conducting concerts together where they alternately played and directed the piano concertos of Johannes Brahms. In addition to his musical career, his literary output under the name Barto Smith includes the bilingual volume A Lady Of Greek Origin (2001) and the ongoing twelve-part cycle The Stelae.
