Hartmut Haenchen, born on March 21, 1943, in Dresden, Germany, is a conductor who began his musical journey as a member of the Dresdner Kreuzchor under Rudolf Mauersberger. At 15, he directed several concerts and made his first significant impact by resurrecting Johann Adolph Hasse's Requiem, which led to his admission to the Hochschule für Musik Dresden in 1960. Haenchen's career took off when he became the director of the Robert-Franz-Singakademie and conductor of the Philharmonie Halle. In 1972, he was appointed Kapellmeister of the Zwickau Orchestra and made his debut at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin with Boris Godunov. He has received numerous accolades, including the Kunstpreis der DDR in 1984. From 1986 to 2002, Haenchen was the principal conductor of the Dutch National Opera.
