Nicola Luisotti is an Italian conductor born in Italy in 1961. Luisotti began studying music as a child and served as the director of a village church choir at age 11. They trained as a pianist and received degrees in composition, trumpet, and voice. Luisotti began a professional career as a rehearsal pianist at La Scala and served as chorus master for La Fenice. Their international debut occurred in 2002 with a production of the Giuseppe Verdi opera “Il trovatore” (2002) at the Staatstheater Stuttgart, where they became the principal conductor for Italian repertoire. Luisotti served as the Music Director of the San Francisco Opera between 2009 and 2018. During this tenure, they conducted the premiere of the Marco Tutino opera “La ciociara” (2015). They held the position of Music Director at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples between 2012 and 2014. Their discography includes the recording Stiffelio (2000) and the album Duets (2007) with Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón. Luisotti received the Premio Puccini in 2010.
