Gilles Cachemaille

Gilles Cachemaille, born November 25, 1951, in Orbe, Switzerland, is a Swiss bass-baritone. He worked as a schoolteacher before studying singing with Juliette Bise. His breakthrough occurred in 1982 when he won first prize for French song, the lyric art prize, and the Mozart prize at the Paris International Singing Competition. This success led to engagements with directors and conductors including Jean-Pierre Brossmann, Louis Erlo, and John Eliot Gardiner. Cachemaille performed with conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, and Sir Simon Rattle, appearing at venues including the Opéra de Genève. His discography includes Hector Berlioz's L'Enfance du Christ (1988) and Béatrice et Bénédict (1992). In 1999, he began teaching at the Haute école de musique de Genève.
