The Ahn Trio, composed of sisters Angella Ahn (violin), Lucia Ahn (piano), and Maria Ahn (cello), was formed in New York City after moving from Seoul, Korea, in 1981. They began their training at the Juilliard School and formed the trio while earning master's degrees there. The group gained recognition in 1987 when Time magazine featured them in a cover story about Asian-American "Whiz Kids." Their debut album, Paris Rio, was released in 1995 under the Chesky label. The trio's second album, Dvořák, Suk & Shostakowitsch: Piano Trios (1998), earned them a German Echo award. They are known for their diverse repertoire and notable performances, including at the TEDWomen series in 2010 and the White House State Dinner in 2011.
