Freistil was a German pop ensemble from Stuttgart established in 2001. The group consisted of vocalist Philipp Schmid, keyboardist Simon Schmid, drummer Fabian Keitel, and guitarist Nico Sukup. Their recording career began with the debut studio recording Alles ist neu (2002) released on the label Ariola and produced by Martin Warnke and Ralph Suda. The ensemble released the studio recording Hörst du meine Lieder (2003), produced by Dieter Falk. Freistil was mentored by the singer Hartmut Engler and toured with the ensembles O-Town and B3. They participated in the German preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 and reached wider visibility through the magazines Bravo and YAM. Their discography included the single “Küssenschlacht” (2001) and the single “Vergessen” (2001). After the group became inactive, Philipp Schmid began a career as a songwriter for artists including Thomas Godoj, Alexander Klaws, and Staubkind.
