Aaron Collins was an American rhythm and blues singer and songwriter born on September 3, 1930, in Arkansas. He received early musical training in church and performed with a gospel group in Michigan before relocating to California. Collins reached wider visibility as a member of the doo wop ensembles the Cadets and the Jacks. He performed lead vocals for hit singles including “Why Don’t You Write Me?” (1955) and “Stranded in the Jungle” (1956). His recording career included the solo studio recording Calypso USA (1957) and the eponymous single “Aaron Collins and the Cadets” (1957), which featured the tracks “Pretty Evey” and “Rum Jamaica Rum”. Collins reached professional recognition in 1961 as a member of the Flares for the hit single “Foot Stomping”. During the 1960s, he released the solo single “Easy To Say” (1969) through the label Crazy Horse and served as the co-owner of the label MJC Records. His sisters, Betty and Rose Collins, reached professional recognition in 1956 as the Teen Queens for the hit single “Eddie My Love”. Collins died on March 27, 1997.
