Klaus Michael Arp, born on April 2, 1950 in Soltau, Germany, was a German conductor and composer. He studied piano, composition, and conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg starting in 1968. From 1975 to 1981, Arp worked as an assistant and solo pianist for ballet performances at the Hamburg State Opera. He served as First Kapellmeister at the Koblenz City Theater from 1981 to 1987 and then became Chief Conductor of the Kaiserslautern Radio Orchestra until 1995. As a guest conductor, he performed internationally in Italy, France, Taiwan, and regularly with the Radio Symphony Orchestra of HRT Zagreb since 1990. Notable compositions include Odysseus auf Ogygia, premiered in 1988, and his chamber opera Friendly Fire which was commissioned by the Neuköll Opera in Berlin and premiered in 2004. Arp passed away on January 4, 2016, in Ludwigshafen.
