Earl George Lawrence, known professionally as George Faith, Earl George, and George Earl, was a Jamaican reggae singer born on July 6, 1946 in Rae Town. His musical journey began with his school choir and made his recording debut in 1970 with "See Me", produced by Clancy Eccles. In the early 1970s, Lawrence collaborated with Glen Lee on tracks like "Green Hills, I Won't Cry" and "Gonna Give Her All The Love I've Got". A pivotal moment came when Lee "Scratch" Perry suggested he change his name to George Faith, leading to the release of "To Be a Lover" in 1977 on Black Swan. This single gained significant popularity. His debut album To Be A Lover was released in the same year. Throughout his career, Lawrence worked with notable producers such as Bunny Lee and Phil Pratt, releasing albums like Soulful and Loving Something. He passed away on April 16, 2003 from cancer.
