Matthias Eisenberg, born on January 15, 1956, in Elstra near Kamenz, is a German organist, harpsichordist, and church musician. He began playing the organ at age nine and was a member of the Dresdner Kreuzchor. Matthias Eisenberg studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig, completing his A-exam in 1978. His breakthrough came with wins at several international competitions, including the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition for organ in 1976. In 1980, Kurt Masur appointed him as the organist of the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester. Matthias Eisenberg has performed at notable venues and recorded extensively, including The Complete Organ Works by J.S. Bach. He was appointed Kirchenmusikdirektor in Hannover in 2003 and received an honorary professorship from Schleswig-Holstein's Prime Minister Heide Simonis for his contributions to organ music. At the end of 2022, he received the honorary citizen of the town of Elstra.
