Grete Weiser was a German actress and singer who was born as Mathilde Ella Dorothea Margarethe Nowka in Hannover, Germany, in 1903. She achieved early professional recognition as a diseuse at the cabaret theater Charlott in Berlin and is famous for her “Herz mit Schnauze” persona and her extensive career in German cinema and musical theater. Weiser received vocal and acting training and performed as a soprano and comedian in cabarets, revues, and operettas, including engagements at the Volksbühne in Berlin. Her discography includes the hit chansons “Der Vamp” and “Emil seine Hände”, alongside the recordings “Chiribiri” (1935) and “Uns gefällt diese Welt” (1936). As a film performer, she gained notoriety for her roles in Die göttliche Jette (1937) and Wir machen Musik (1942). For her contributions to German culture, she was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (1968). Weiser died in 1970.
