George London (born May 30, 1920) was an American operatic bass-baritone born in Montreal, Canada. London began studying singing in Los Angeles and performed his debut as George Burnson in the opera La traviata in 1941. Between 1947 and 1948, the singer toured with the Bel Canto Trio. London joined the Vienna State Opera in 1949 and performed in the opera Aida.London performed at the Bayreuth Festival in 1951 and joined the Metropolitan Opera that same year. In 1958, the singer recorded the role of Wotan in the opera Das Rheingold. London performed the title role of Boris Godunov at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1960. He ended his singing career in 1967 and became a director for the Seattle Opera and the Washington Opera. London died on March 24, 1985.
