Joseph Coleman Smith, known professionally as Sonny Knight, was an American rhythm and blues singer and author born in 1934. Knight moved to Los Angeles in the 1950s and released the early singles “But, Officer” (1953) and “Baby, Come Back” (1953). Recognition increased with the recording “Confidential” (1956), which reached number 17 on the Billboard pop chart and number 8 on the R&B chart. Their recordings include the single “If You Want This Love” (1964), which reached number 71, and “Love Me (As Though There Were No Tomorrow)” (1965), which reached number 100. During the 1960s, the artist worked as a session pianist. Knight moved to Hawaii in the 1970s and performed in nightclubs. The artist published the novel The Day the Music Died in 1981. Knight passed away in 1998. The compilation album Confidential was released in 2001.
