Giulietta Simionato, born on May 12, 1910, in Forlì, Italy, was an Italian operatic mezzo-soprano. She began vocal studies in Rovigo with Lucatello and in Milan under Guido Palumbo, and performed in public as early as 1927. She made her official debut in 1932 in Montagnana as Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana. Her breakthrough came in 1947 when she triumphed in the title role of Mignon at La Scala in Milan. Following this success, she became a prominent figure in post-war Italian opera, performing major roles such as Azucena in Il trovatore, Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera, and Amneris in Aida. She also contributed to the revival of Gioachino Rossini's operas, singing Isabella in L'italiana in Algeri and the title role in La Cenerentola. Throughout her career, she collaborated with prominent artists, performing alongside Maria Callas as Adalgisa in Norma and Giovanna Seymour in Anna Bolena, as well as with Joan Sutherland in Semiramide and Les Huguenots. Her discography includes a 1961 recording of Adrienne Lecouvreur with Renata Tebaldi. She died on May 5, 2010, in Rome, Italy.
