Lorenzo Piani was an Italian pop singer and songwriter who was born as Lorenzo Piattoni in Giulianova, Italy, in 1955. He is famous for his work as a composer for RAI TV and for his crossover project Pop Classic, which blended pop music with classical counterpoint. Piani achieved early professional recognition after studying classical piano at the Rossini Conservatory and performing internationally for figures such as King Hussein of Jordan. In 1983, he returned to Italy to compose for television programs including Tandem and Vediamoci sul 2. His discography includes the studio recordings Sognatori Erranti (1990), Vivo Feelings (1998), and La Filosofia del CAM (2011). He collaborated with the British musician Brian Auger on the recording Sorpresi dal Vento (2008) and with the soprano Desirée Rancatore on the single “Senza un sorriso” (2015). His final recording, Shades of Music (2015), defines various nuances of instrumental music. Piani died in 2016.
