Alphonso Campbell, known as Al Campbell, was born on August 31, 1954, in Kingston, Jamaica. He began singing at his father's church and formed The Thrillers with schoolmates, recording at Studio One in the late 1960s. Campbell's breakthrough came with "Gee Baby" in 1975, a hit in Jamaica and the UK. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he released albums like Ain't That Loving You (1978) and Late Night Blues (1980), showcasing his versatility in roots reggae and lovers rock. He collaborated with producers such as Phil Pratt, Bunny Lee, Joe Gibbs, and Linval Thompson. In 1997, he teamed up with Cornell Campbell and Jimmy Riley to form a new version of The Uniques, releasing an album in 1999.
