Alexander Herman "Whistlin' Alex" Moore, born on November 22, 1899, in Dallas, Texas, was an American blues singer, pianist, and whistler. He taught himself piano, developing a style that blended blues, ragtime, and boogie-woogie. In 1929, Moore made his debut recordings for Columbia Records. Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, he performed in Dallas clubs. His career gained national recognition after signing with Arhoolie Records in 1960. Moore toured extensively during the 1960s, including performances at festivals in Europe. In 1987, he received a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. His final album, Wiggle Tail, was released by Rounder Records in 1988. Moore passed away on January 20, 1989, in Dallas.
