Frederic Charles Slack, known as Freddie Slack, and born on August 7, 1910, in Viroqua, Wisconsin, was a swing and boogie-woogie pianist and bandleader. He started playing piano at age 13 and studied at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. Slack's first job was with Johnny Tobin, followed by stints in Los Angeles. He joined Ben Pollack's orchestra in 1934 and later played with the Jimmy Dorsey Band. In 1939, he became a charter member of the Will Bradley Orchestra, contributing to "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar" (1940). Slack formed his own band in 1942 and signed with Capitol Records, achieving chart success with "Cow Cow Boogie" and "Mr. Five by Five". He collaborated with Ella Mae Morse and T-Bone Walker. He passed away on August 10, 1965, in Los Angeles.
