Robert Edward Moncrief, known professionally as Bobby Edwards, born in 1926 in Anniston, Alabama, was an American country music singer. At the beginning of his career, he recorded under the name Bobby Moncrief, releasing his first single, "Long Gone Daddy" (1958), for D Records. In 1959, he released a cover of "Jealous Heart" (1959) on the Bluebonnet label. He subsequently started recording as Bobby Edwards, traveled west, and was placed by Terry Fell on Crest Records, where he joined the group The Four Young Men to form Bobby Edwards & The Four Young Men. They recorded the single "You're the Reason" (1961), which reached number 4 on the Billboard country chart and number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Although Edwards wrote the song, songwriting credits went to Fred Henley and Terry Fell. The track was subsequently covered by Joe South and Hank Locklin. Edwards transferred to Capitol Records and released the single "What's the Reason" (1962), which reached number 71, followed by "Don't Pretend" (1963), which reached number 23 on the country chart. After releasing several gospel albums in the early 1970s, Edwards retired from the music industry in 1972. He died in 2012.
