Claudina Emilia Maria Muzzio, also known as Claudia Muzio, born on February 7, 1889, in Pavia, Italy, was an operatic lyric soprano known for her international career during the early 20th century. She made her debut as Manon in Arezzo on January 15, 1910, after training with Annetta Casaloni and Elettra Callery-Viviani. Muzio performed at major venues, including La Scala in Milan, Paris, and London’s Covent Garden in 1914. She debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Tosca in 1916 and created the role of Giorgetta in Puccini's Il tabarro in 1918. Notable roles included Violetta in La traviata. Despite financial struggles and health issues, she continued to perform until her death on May 24, 1936. Her recordings released through the Edison and Columbia labels are notable for their expressive power.
