Michael Garrison, born on November 28, 1956, in Roseburg, Oregon, was an American synthesist. He began composing music at age 13 and studied music in Idaho during the mid-1970s. His debut album, In the Regions of Sunreturn, released in 1979 by Windspell Music, later known as Garrisongs, was inspired by the Voyager space missions. In 1980, BMG offered to release his album in Europe, where it gained popularity among insiders. His track "Departure" became the new title melody for the WDR radio show Schwingungen in Germany. Michael Garrison passed away on March 24, 2004, in Bend, Oregon, due to acute liver failure resulting from alcoholism.
